60: Runes

The coils of rounded Celtic letters co-existed with archaic squared-off Runes.  The Book of Kells offers hundreds of different forms.  Here are just a few.

  1. Margaret, thanks for this alphabet! I'm in a course on the Book of Kells at the moment and was looking for something to use in Jean Wilson's envelope exchange this month in combination with some interesting American stamps celebrating stage magic. (I know, weird combo, but the colors and graphic design of the stamps are a good match, even if the subject matter isn't!). This is exactly what I needed to see and saved me hours of poring over the digitized Kells pages. Which I will probably do anyway, but with the freedom to explore whatever I wish and not focus only on letterforms that suit my current purpose!
